Hydrocarbon Engineering,

AMETEK Process Instruments – Stand 21

AMETEK Process Instruments offers the industry’s most extensive line of online sulfur analysers. Its AMETEK® and Western Research® analysers are widely used in sulfur recovery and tail gas treatment facilities worldwide. They include:

  • Model 900 air demand analyser: Developed specifically to meet the requirements of the latest sulfur recovery processes, it measures up to five species simultaneously, including hydrogen sulfide (H2S), sulfur dioxide (S2O), carbonyl sulfide (COS), carbon disulfide (CS2) and sulfur vapour (Sv).
  • Model 931 single gas analyser: A rugged single component photometric gas analyser designed for a variety of gas monitoring and process control applications. It utilises AMETEK’s proprietary high resolution UV technology that features no moving parts.
  • Model 930 H<2S vapour space analyser: This analyser measures H2S vapour in sulfur pits, which can pose a danger to plant operations. It utilises AMETEK’s proprietary high resolution UV technology and is field proven to reliably monitor both H2S and SO2.
  • Model 881-NSL (No sample line) sulfur pit analyser: This analyser also measures H2S in liquid sulfur pits but draws the vapour directly into the unit, eliminating the need for a heated sample line that can plug along with other anti clogging features.

BASF – Stand 49

BASF’s specialty oxidation catalysts are used to ensure high yield sulfuric acid production. They offer full systems designed for performance reliability, simulation of plant operations, converter catalyst bed sizing, highest conversion requirements, SO2 emission reduction and environmental protection maximisation.

Cs promoted sulfuric acid catalysts like BASF’s O4-115 are known to be active even at reaction temperatures below 400 °C. The development of BASF’s new high performance catalyst O4-116 is based on a combined approach of optimising the silica containing carrier and the chemical composition of the active compound with O4-115 as a starting point. The result is a drastically increased reactivity at temperatures of ? 400 °C. BASF O4-116 provides significant advantages to achieve higher capacity at unchanged conversion rate or higher conversion rate at the same capacity.

BASF also offers an extensive line of Claus catalysts including non-promoted and promoted activated alumina, titania catalysts and an alumina/titania composite catalyst, as well as active and inert bed supports.

Blasch Precision Ceramics – Stand 33

Blasch Precision Ceramics is an advanced refractories company specialising in the design and manufacture of close tolerance, complex net shapes and strives to take an engineering problem solving approach to improving refractory performance.

Blasch is able to do this by utilising a proprietary injection molding process that allows for almost complete freedom of design, and yields components exhibiting exceptional thermal shock resistance and remarkable consistency, in terms of physical properties as well as dimensional tolerances.

Blasch developed the precast one piece hexagonal and square head ferrule systems in response to requests from the field to address cracking in large tubesheets utilising the traditional round ferrule and castable approach. Blasch was able to design a system that utilised individual precast ferrules that are carefully sized to allow for repeated thermal cycling without the buildup of stresses that one would find in a monolithic castable or mortared ferrule system.

The Blasch HexWallTM checkerwall was a result of repeated requests to develop a precast refractory checkerwall that was mechanically stable over the long run in a variety of sizes and in even the highest temperatures. The HexWall checkerwall consists or a series of hexagonally shaped blocks that lock together through the use of a series of tabs and slots to provide considerable mechanical advantage.

With the success of the HexWall checkerwall, attention turned to actual impact on process output, and a version called the VectorWallTM was developed that could be configured to create an almost endless series of customised flow fields within reaction furnaces and thermal oxidisers.
