Early May: Downstream maintenance and construction news
Bahrain
Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza has said that Bahrain is looking to spend US$ 8 billion to expand and modernise the country’s refinery. As part of the modernisation work, key units at the facility will be replaced to ensure that the plant runs at the highest possible processing rate for the next 70 years.
US
Holly Frontier Corp has announced turnaround work at its Oklahoma and Utah refineries during the latter half of this year. At the Oklahoma facility, work will be confined to the west plant which has a processing capacity of 85 000 bpd. At the Utah refinery work will be confined to the 31 000 bpd gasoline making FCC unit.
Western Refining Inc. has announced plans to expand the El Paso, Texas refinery. The expansion work will allow the facility to run crude extracted from shale at a rate of 40 000 bpd.
Marathon Petroleum is going to shut down a sulfur recovery unit at its Kentucky refinery for maintenance. Only minor work is being carried out on the unit and it will be back online by 23rd May.
