The Iranian Research Institute of the Petroleum Industry has announced that Iran is building its first refinery that will have the ability to process heavy crudes. The facility is being constructed on Qeshm Island and will have a processing capacity of 30 000 bpd. The facility is expected to be online in 2013.
NuStar Energy purchased the only refinery within San Antionio’s city limits in April of this year. The company are now 5 months in to upgrading plan which are focusing on safety. The company are looking to spend approximately US$ 40 million on the upgrading plan by the end of 2012.
The Chief Executive of Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC) has announced plans for the expansion of the Sohar refinery in Oman. Capacity will be boosted by 50% by 2016 as fuel demand in the country continues to expand rapidly. Oman is looking to spend US$ 1.5 billion on the project.
Sunoco Inc. has shut a crude unit at the Marcus Hook refinery, Pennsylvania. The unit at the 178 00 bpd facility will be offline for two weeks for maintenance
Tesoro Corp is to shortly begin work to expand the Mandan refinery in North Dakota. Tesoro are looking to add 10 000 bpd of capacity to the facility and complete all the work by the middle of 2012.
