NPRA President Charles T. Drevna issued the following statement after President Obama announced on 2nd September that he has directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to withdraw proposed rules to limit ozones.

‘President Obama has acted in the best interests of America’s workers, families and economy by telling the EPA to cease and desist in its effort to impost unrealistic, unjustified and unneeded new ozone standards on our nation.’

‘The extreme standards EPA was considering would have caused devastating harm, wiping out millions of American jobs and costing our economy more than US$ 1 trillion over a decade, without any significant environmental of health benefits. This is the last thing our nation needs with the unemployment rate stuck above 9%.’

‘We appreciate that President Obama has renewed his call for reducing regulatory burdens, and want to work with him and his administration to further this important goal. America’s leaders need to make a realistic cost benefit assessment of what is possible and desirable before impost further regulatory burdens that would weaken our economic and national security.’

American Petroleum Institute

API President and CEO Jack Gerard welcomed President Obama’s decision to halt EPA’s proposal to set a new out of cycle ozone standard without any mandate or obligation.

‘The President’s decision is good news for the economy and Americans looking for work. EPA’s proposal would have prevented the very job creation that President Obama has identified as his top priority.’

‘Ozone levels and air quality continue to improve under current regulations and our industry is committed to making the air we all breathe cleaner whiles creating new jobs.’

‘The oil and natural gas industry was one of the few industries to actually create jobs in August. With the right public policies, we can do more to help generate more American jobs and help get our economy back on track.’
