Australia
Shell is apparently considering selling its Australian refining business. These sales would come as part of a two year divestment plan that the company announced at the end of 2013 totalling US$ 15 billion. A deal to sell the Wheatstone LNG project for US$ 1.14 billion has already been struck.
Canada
A law suit has been brought against Regina Consumers’ Cooperative Refineries Ltd. and the company in charge of refurbishing the refinery after a fire in 2011 that injured four people physically. The suit is being launched by five scaffolders who claim negligence and are looking for damages for emotional and physical injuries. The allegations have not yet been proven in court.
China
PetroChina has decided to put off constructing two new refineries and expanding another. The 200 00 bpd Kunming refinery is being delayed to 2016, the 400 000 bpd Jieyang refinery to 2017 and the expansion of the Huabei refinery is now scheduled for 2015.
Senegal
Following a government strategic review, Senegal has decided to keeps its sole refinery operational despite its age. The refinery processes 25 000 bpd and conversion into an import and storage terminal was being considered. The facility is over 50 years old and is jointly owed by Petrosen, Total and the Saudi Binladin Group.
Singapore
Singapore Refining Co has announced plans to invest over US$ 500 million in the Jurong Island refinery. The company are going to build gasoline and power generation units at the facility including a gasoline desulfurisation unit, an amine treating unit and cogeneration units.
USA
The volunteer organisation at the CITGo Lemont refinery has carried out a donation drive to help residents throughout Illinois recover from the 2013 tornadoes. The CITGO Community Action Team raised more than US$ 1500 and hundreds of relief items including food, clothing and infant toiletries.
