America's Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) has released statements on the introduction of the Waterways LNG Parity Act of 2015, the passage of the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015 by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and the passage of a provision to create tax parity for LNG in the highway funding package.

Introduction of the Waterways LNG Parity Act of 2015

"ANGA commends Congressman Todd Young (R-IN) on the introduction of the Waterways LNG Parity Act of 2015, H.R. 3431. Natural gas is an increasingly attractive alternative fuel because of its environmental and economic benefits. This bill recognises the opportunities for natural gas fuel in new markets such as the maritime sector, and levels the playing field to ensure that natural gas will be taxed at the same rate as traditional fuels,” said Executive Vice President for Government Affairs, Frank J. Macchiarola.

"The thousands of vessels operating on our nation's inland waterways play a significant role in interstate commerce and offer great opportunities for converting to domestic, clean and affordable natural gas. We thank Congressman Young for introducing legislation that makes it easier for our transportation sector to take advantage of America's abundant natural gas.”

Committee Passage of the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015

"We applaud Chairman Murkowski, Ranking Member Cantwell and their colleagues on the Senate Energy Committee for the bipartisan passage of the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015. In particular, the bill's provisions to provide greater certainty for natural gas infrastructure permitting and for LNG export approvals will better allow our nation to take advantage of the many opportunities associated with our abundant natural gas resource. We commend the Committee and its staff for their tireless efforts in moving this important legislation and look forward to seeing it progress to the Senate floor," said President and CEO Marty Durbin.

Congressional Passage of LNG Tax Parity Provision

"We applaud Congress for including language to equalise the federal highway excise tax on LNG in the highway bill. This provision has garnered strong bipartisan support over the years, and we are thrilled to see it become law. The shale revolution is creating new opportunities for natural gas fuel in all sectors of our economy, and this legislation ensures that more vehicles can take advantage of clean, abundant and American natural gas," said Durbin.
