MAN Energy Solutions has won the ‘Best Paper Award’ at the Power-Gen Asia trade show that took place from 18 – 20 September in Jakarta, Indonesia. The ‘Small-Scale LNG – Powering the Future of Asia’s Island Communities’ paper was presented by Carsten Dommermuth, Senior Manager, International Business Development, MAN Energy Solutions.

Small-Scale LNG Paper wins award at Power-Gen Asia

Dommermuth said: “We’re very pleased that our contribution to the debate on power in Asia has won such recognition. Essentially, the paper showcases a lot of insights into the needs of the local power market and it obviously struck a chord with the judges. There is no doubt but that small-scale LNG projects are set to figure prominently in the near-future in this part of the world.”

“The paper also ties in with MAN Energy Solutions’ new strategy to deliver the entire value chain from small-scale LNG infrastructure to highly-efficient, decentralised, prime-mover technology like gas- and dual-fuel engines and gas turbines. This setup is a real advantage for customers seeking LNG-to-power solutions who can source complete solutions from the same provider,” added Dommermuth.

The winning paper argues that small-scale LNG has the potential to support especially remote locations and islands within the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) area with the cleanest fossil fuel available for power generation. Due to its operational flexibility, it can be seen as a perfect match with fluctuating renewables, like wind and solar power, to invest into a sustainable, future energy mix.

Such installations also have the potential to replace older diesel- or HFO-fired installations with electrical efficiencies below 30% and a high share of related emissions. Today’s generators offer state-of-the-art dual-fuel flexibility above 44% of electrical efficiency with a unit output of 20 MW, and could support sustainable, economic development for millions of people with low per-capita electricity consumption in remote populations with cost effective 24/7 available baseload power.
