VTTI B.V. has officially launched the market consultation for tyre-derived oil (TDO) as part of the VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp project at its existing terminal VTTI Antwerp, Belgium.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in VTTI’s strategy to address the global waste challenge and advance the energy transition.

The consultation, starting 9 September 2025, invites interested market participants for the offtake of TDO to submit an Expression of Interest by 18:00 CEST on 17 October 2025, initiating the first phase of commercial engagement.

EVP Growth, Tom Smeenk commented: “With VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp, we are taking a meaningful step toward turning tyres into resources – supporting industrial decarbonisation while tackling a global waste challenge. This market consultation is an opportunity to engage with interested parties and co-develop circular solutions that make real impact.”

SVP VTTI Belgium, Yvan Tavernier, commented: “VTTI Antwerp is continuously investing in the transformation of its terminal towards greener and more sustainable products. The launch of VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp marks an important step forward, as it integrates advanced recycling technologies that allow us to reduce waste and lower our carbon footprint. This initiative not only enhances our portfolio but also reinforces our leadership in sustainable energy solutions.”

The market consultation aims to identify relevant sectors for the use of TDO and to determine the best strategic fit through a balanced offtake portfolio that aligns with the project’s objectives and VTTI’s long-term vision.

This development supports VTTI’s ambition to derive 50% of its earnings from transitional and sustainable energies by 2028, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding global infrastructure that drives the circular economy and energy transition.

The project was first announced in partnership with Pyrum Innovations in February 2025.

VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp involves the construction of a pyrolysis plant capable of recycling up to 60 000 tpy of waste tyres. The facility will produce approximately 11 000 tpy of TDO, alongside recovered carbon black (rCB). Leveraging advanced pyrolysis technology from Pyrum Innovations, the project will deliver high-value secondary raw materials that can replace virgin fossil-based feedstocks in industrial applications.
