Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the city of Passo Fundo, Brazil, concerning support for the construction of an on-site green ammonia plant. The signing ceremony was attended by the Rector of the University of Passo Fundo and the President of the City Council, among others.

OC Global has invested, through its local subsidiary Oriental Consultants Global Do Brasil LTDA (OCGBR), in Begreen Bioenergia e Fertilizants Sustentaveis Passo Fundo SPE S.A. (SPV Passo Fundo), which is engaged in the on-site production and sale of green ammonia. The city of Passo Fundo, one of the host municipalities for the planned on-site green ammonia plant, signed the MoU that includes provisions for municipal support in the form of partial funding for the development of water infrastructure and access roads associated with the plant’s construction.

The plant is scheduled to be constructed within the campus of the University of Passo Fundo, and has already obtained the required environmental licenses in accordance with Brazil’s federal and relevant local legislation, with the understanding and support of the local community. Following the commencement of commercial operations, a portion of the plant’s revenue is planned to be allocated to fund scholarships for the University’s master’s programme in engineering, thereby contributing to local human resource development and applied research. In addition, OCGBR and its partner Begreen H.D. are members of TecnoAgro, a public-private-academic incubation community based at the University of Passo Fundo. Professional guidance from this community has laid a foundation for the advancement of the project.

This project not only contributes to addressing the societal challenge of reducing carbon dioxide emissions in Brazil’s agricultural sector but also promotes advanced collaboration among academia, government, and industry through partnerships with local universities and municipalities. Furthermore, it supports the local community by generating employment and contributing to tax revenues.
