Chiyoda announces production and supply of commercial biofuel
The Chiyoda Corporation has announced its partnership with euglena Co., Ltd as an EPC contractor for Japan’s first demonstration plant to produce and supply biojet/biodiesel fuels. The construction at Yokohama seaside is estimated to start in summer 2016 and finish by the end of 2017, with plant operations beginning in the first half of 2018.
The experience, knowledge and information obtained by the operation of the demonstration plant, will aid in the construction of a further commercial plant planned for the 2020s.
The plant will produce AST compliant biojet fuel, biokerosense, and next generation biodiesel fuel, bionaptha, from domestically procured feedstock supplied by Itochu Enex. This will be used to supply domestic users with fuel for practical use such as commercial flight, public transport and individual driving. The feedstock will comprise of microalgae and inedible plant oil and the estimated initial output for this facility will be 5 bpd.
