EIA: June 2015 Monthly Energy Review

EIA’s June 2015 Monthly Energy Review (MER) was released on 25 June 2015. Preliminary estimates indicate that for March 2015:

• CO₂ emissions from US consumption of energy (excluding biomass) totalled 456 million t. Of this total, petroleum accounted for 43%, natural gas for 31%, and coal for 26%.
• The transportation sector accounted for 35% of total CO₂ emissions from energy consumption, with 97% of the sector’s emissions attributable to petroleum; the industrial sector accounted for 27% of total emissions.
• The commercial and residential sectors combined to account for 39% of all CO₂ emissions from energy consumption. Nearly 63% of energy related CO₂ emissions from the residential and commercial sectors combined was attributable to retail electricity. (Emissions from energy consumption in the electric power sector are allocated to each sector in proportion to its share of retail sales).
