AFPM supports new rules to regulate EPA rulemaking
The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) offers strong support to three bills – EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act (H.R. 1422), Secret Science Reform Act (H.R. 4012), and Promoting New Manufacturing Act (H.R. 4795) – in the US House of Representatives this week that aim to increase transparency in the science of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) rulemaking process.
In a statement, AFPM President Charles T. Drevna said: “For too long the Environmental Protection Agency has been hiding behind decades old science and has relied on advisors that take taxpayers’ money to peer review their own work in order to create new environmental regulations. This practice results in costly new regulations that deliver very few, if any, public benefits. The EPA, and other government agencies, should always strive to be transparent as a matter of scientific principle, but sadly, this is not the case. The bills under consideration this week will ensure that regulations are crafted transparently and use best science available”.
