Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. has announced that its subsidiary, NextChem, has been awarded a feasibility study by Foresight Group for a carbon capture and sustainable methanol synthesis plant in the ETA Manfredonia waste-to-energy plant in Puglia, a Southeastern Italian region. Upon completion of the feasibility study, the successful finalisation of the permitting process, as well as the subsequent final investment decision (FID), the execution of the engineering and construction phases will be carried out by other Maire Tecnimont Group’s subsidiaries, under an integrated approach aimed at valorising distinctive skills and competences within the Group.
Foresight Group is a €13 billion sustainability-led, alternative assets fund manager invested into several assets globally including waste-to-energy plants.
NextChem will be responsible for identifying the best decarbonisation proposal for the plant, providing a tailored solution thanks to its technological portfolio. The project aims to valorise about 200 000 tpy of carbon dioxide (CO2) currently emitted to the atmosphere by combining it with green hydrogen for the production of sustainable fuel.
Alessandro Bernini, Chief Executive Officer of Maire Tecnimont Group and NextChem, said: “This award sets the basis for the realisation of one of the main projects for CO2 valorisation in Italy, strengthening Maire Tecnimont Group’s role as energy transition enabler. We are eager to start supporting Foresight Group in achieving its sustainability goals within the ETA Manfredonia Plant”.
