Amec Foster Wheeler wins upgrade contract

Amec Foster Wheeler has announced its been awarded an Engineering and Project Management Services Contract by PT Pertamina (Persero) and Saudi Aramco for the upgrade and expansion of the 348 000 bpd Cilacap Refinery in Central Java.

Over the next nine months, Amec Foster Wheeler will conduct the basic engineering design study, develop the scope for the proposed project and finalise the process configuration and licensors’ packages.

Amec Foster Wheeler’s Group President for Asia Middle East, Africa and Southern Europe, Roberto Penno said, "This is a strategic project for Indonesia’s oil and gas industry, in one of Asia’s fastest growing economies with a growing energy demand. We will combine our indepth refinery expertise from our Reading, UK, operation, together with our strong Asian operations, to deliver the best of Amec Foster Wheeler for this important project.”

The upgrade of the Cilacap Refinery is part of Pertamina’s Refinery Development Master Plan. It aims to improve Indonesia’s energy security and involves the expansion and upgrade of its domestic refineries, with the overall Cilacap Refinery upgrade project estimated to cost approximately US$4 - 5 billion.

The upgrade and expansion project is intended to increase the capacity of the refinery to 370 000 bpd, maximise production of cleaner gasoline and diesel, produce higher quality base oils for the domestic market, and expand aromatics and polypropylene production to more than 600 000 t and 160 000 tpy, respectively.
