Apache

Apache Corporation has announced that it has agreed to sell its interest in two LNG projects, Wheatstone LNG and Kitimat LNG, along with accompanying upstream oil and gas reserves, to Woodside Petroleum Limited for a purchase price of US$2.75 billion. Apache will also be reimbursed for its net expenditure in the Wheatstone and Kitimat LNG projects between June 30 2014, and closing which is estimated to be approximately US$1 billion.

Under the terms of the agreement, Apache will sell its equity ownership in its Australian subsidiary, Apache Julimar Pty Ltd, which owns a 13% interest in the Wheatstone LNG project and a 65% interest in the WA-49-L block which includes the Julimar/Brunello offshore gas fields and the Balnaves oil development. The transaction, which has an effective date of 30 June 2014, will also include Apache’s 50% interest in the Kitimat LNG project and related upstream acreage in the Horn River and Liard natural gas basins in BC, Canda.

Braemar Engineering

Texas LNG Brownsville LLC has appointed Braemar Engineering, the marine and LNG technical consultancy arm of the Braemar Shipping Services PLC Group as owner’s engineers for the proposed Brownsville LNG project. The project will be constructed in a deepwater frontage site along the Port of Brownsville shipping channel, South Texas, and is anticipated to export more than 2 million tpy of LNG, with the first shipments planned for export in 2019. Texas LNG is currently working with its strategic and engineering partner, Samsung Engineering, progressing the FEED phase of the project.

Texas LNG has recently secured funding for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) application process from a New York based investment fund. The development strategy for the project aims to minimise the environmental impact of current gas flaring, and provide a net positive environmental and economic benefit to the region.

Gazprom

Gazpromneft-Aero has started supplying aviation fuel to Japan Airlines (JAL) at Moscow Domodedovo Airport. The total volume of supplies under the contract, concluded for a period of one year, will amount to approximately 7500 t. the airline performs regular direct flights departing from Moscow to Tokyo, using Boeing 747 aircraft. JAL became the 18th foreign airline with whom Gazpromneft-Aero cooperates at Domodedovo Airport. According to the results over a 10 month period. Gazpromneft-Aero supplied over 110 000 t of aviation fuel intended for refuelling aircraft of foreign airlines in Domodedovo, which is a three fold increase against the same period in 2013.

Lloyd’s Register

The Lloyd’s Register Foundation has launched its Foresight review of big data and announced a conditional grant offer of £10 million over five years to support research by the Alan Turing Institute on engineering applications of big data. The Foundation’s Foresight review of big data: towards data centric engineering looks forward at how developments in the area of big data might impact the safety and performance of the engineering assets and infrastructure on which modern society relies, such as energy, transportation and shipping. The report draws on the findings of an international expert advisory panel led by Prof Sir Nigel Shadbolt, Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Southampton and Chairman of the Open Data Institute.
