NPCC forecasts increase in Nigerian refinery output

According to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NPCC), rehabilitation work on the country’s refineries will be completed in the first quarter of 2016. Currently, the refineries, which are located in Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Warri, are operating below capacity and are unable to meet the demands of the domestic market.

During a meeting with the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources in Abuka, Tim Okon, Coordinator, Corporate Planning and Strategy at the NNPC, noted that the rehabilitation work could result in an increase in Nigeria’s total output of refined petroleum products to 400 000 bpd by 2016.

“By the first quarter of next year, all the refineries will be functioning optimally and we would be able to refine an average of 400 000 bpd of crude for local consumption,” Okon told local press. “However, another advantage of what we are currently doing is that instead of shutting down the facilities while the turnaround maintenance lasted, we will be producing even when the rehabilitation work is ongoing.”
