BP halts production at Bulwer Island refinery

According to local press reports, BP has stopped production at its 102 000 bpd Bulwer Island refinery in Brisbane, Australia. The facility’s major units were shut down throughout May, as the company prepares to convert the site into a jet fuel import terminal.

"The import jetty, aviation fuel tanks and associated pipelines remain operational to allow the site to transition to a jet fuel import terminal," said a company spokeswoman.

The company previously announced the closure of the refinery by mid 2015 in April last year. BP is restructuring its struggling refining and marketing business in the country, as the industry faces rising costs and strong competition in Asia.
