US gasoline and diesel price movements: Week ending 26 January 2015
Gasoline
The US average retail price of regular gasoline fell to US$2/04/gal. as of 26 January 2015, down two cents from the previous week and US$1.25/gal. lower than the same time last year.
Midwest and Gulf Coast prices ended 16 consecutive weeks of price declines, rising two cents and one cent, respectively, to US$1.94/gal. and US$1.85/gal. East Coast and West Coast prices declined five cents, to US$2.10/gal. and US$2.33/gal., respectively. The Rocky Mountain price fell four cents to US$1.87/gal.
Diesel
The US average price for diesel fuel was down seven cents from the week prior to US$2.87/gal., US$1.04/gal. less than the same time last year.
The Midwest price decreased nine cents to US$2.80/gal. The Rocky Mountain and West Coast prices fell seven cents, to US$2.81/gal. and US$2.94/gal., respectively. The Gulf Coast price was down six cents to US$2.79/gal., and the East Coast price decreased five cents to US$2.97/gal.
Propane inventories
US propane stocks decreased by 1.9 million bbls last week to 69.3 million bbls as of 23 January 2015, 37.6 million bbls (118.8%) higher than a year ago. Midwest inventories decreased by 1.2 million bbls and Gulf Coast inventories decreased by 0.6 million bbls. Rocky Mountain/West Coast inventories decreased by 0.2 million bbls while East Coast inventories increased by 0.1 million bbls.
Propylene non-fuel use inventories represented 6.1% of total propane inventories.
Residential heating fuel prices
As of 26 January 2015, residential heating oil prices averaged less than US$2.82/gal., almost 2 cents/gal. lower than last week, and nearly US$1.36/gal. less than last year’s price for the same week. Wholesale heating oil prices were virtually unchanged at US$1.76/gal., US$1.63/gal. lower when compared to the same time last year.
Residential propane prices averaged less than US$2.38/gal., 1 cent/gal. lower than last week, and nearly US$1.64/gal. less than the price at the same time last year. The average wholesale propane price increased by 1 cent/gal. this week to 63 cents/gal., almost US$2.92/gal. lower than the 27 January 2014 price.
