US gasoline and diesel fuel prices: Week ending 19 January 2015.
Gasoline
The US average price of regular gasoline fell seven cents from the week prior to US$2.07/gal. as of 19 January 2015, US$1.23/gal. less than the same time last year.
The West Coast price decreased 11 cents to US$2.38/gal., while the East Coast price fell ten cents to US$2.16/gal. The Rocky Mountain price was down eight cents to US$1.91/gal. The Gulf Coast price declined seven cents to US$1.84/gal., and the Midwest price was down three cents to US$1.92/gal.
Diesel
The US average price for diesel fuel decreased 12 cents from last week to US$2.93/gal., the first time below US$3/gal. since September 2010, and 94 cents/gal. lower than the same time last year. The Rocky Mountain price led the declines, down 14 cents to US$2.88/gal. The Midwest, Gulf Coast, East Coast and West Coast prices each fell 12 cents, to US$2.89/gal., US$2.84/gal., US$3.02/gal., and US$3.01/gal., respectively.
Propane inventories
US propane stocks decreased by 3.6 million bbls last week to 71.2 million bbls of of 16 January 2015, 36.0 million bbls (102.0%) higher than a year ago. Midwest inventories decreased by 1.6 million bbls and Gulf Coast inventories decreased 1.3 million bbls. East Coast inventories decreased by 0.2 million bbls.
Propylene non-fuel use inventories represented 5.9% of total propane inventories.
Residential propane prices
As of 19 January 2015, residential heating oil prices averaged less than US$2.84/gal., almost 8 cents/gal. lower than last week, and US$1.22/gal. less than last year’s price for the same week. Wholesale heating oil prices averaged US$1.76/gal., 3 cents/gal. lower than last week and nearly US$1.45/gal. lower when compared to the same time last year.
Residential propane prices averaged less than US$2.39/gal., almost 4 cents/gal. higher than last week, and 57 cents/gal. less than the price at the same time last year. The average wholesale propane price increased 5 cents/gal. this week to 62 cents/gal. US$1.49/gal. lower than the 20 January 2014 price.
