US diesel and gasoline price movements: week ending 17 November 2014
Gasoline
According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the US average price for regular gasoline decreased five cents last week to US$ 2.89/gal. as of 17 November 2014, 33 cents lower than the same time last year.
The Rocky Mountain price declined seven cents to US$ 3.01/gal. The Midwest, Gulf Coast, and West Coast prices each fell five cents to US$ 2.86/gal.,a nd US$ 3.11/gal., respectively. The East Coast price declined four cents to US$ 2.91/gal.
Diesel
The average US price for diesel fuel decreased two cents from the week prior to US$ 3.66/gal., down 16 cents from the same time last year.
The East Coast and Rocky Mountain prices both declined three cents, to US$ 3.54/gal. and US$ 3.77/gal., respectively. The West Coast and Gulf Coast prices fell two cents, to US$ 3.76/gal. and US$ 3.54/gal., respectively. The Midwest price fell less than a cent to remain at US$ 3.79/gal.
Residential heating fuel
As of 17 November 2014, residential heating oil prices averaged US$ 3.38/gal., 3 cents/gal. lower than last week, and nearly 44 cents less than last year’s price for the same week. Wholesale heating oil prices averaged US$ 2.60/gal., 10 cents lower than last week and nearly 44 cents lower when compared to the same time last year.
Propane
Residential propane prices decreased to US$ 2.40/gal., almost 1 cent/gal. lower than last week, and 10 cents/gal. less than the price for the same time last year. Wholesale propane prices averaged US$ 1.00/gal., nearly 2 cents lower than last week’s price and almost 41 cents /gal. lower than the 18 November 2013 price.
US propane stocks increased by 0.1 million bbls last week to 81.2 million bbls as of 14 November 2014, 22.8 million bbls (39.0%) higher than a year ago. Gulf Coast inventories increased by 0.4 million bbls while Midwest inventories decreased by 0.3 million bbls. East Coast inventories and Rocky Mountain/West Coast inventories both remained unchanged.
Propylene non-fuel use inventories represented 3.7% of total propane inventories.
