India is expected to register the highest styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR) capacity additions globally between 2021 and 2025, contributing approximately 95% of the total capacity additions by 2025, reports GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s report, ‘Global Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber (SBR) Industry Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’, reveals that India is likely to witness a total SBR capacity additions of 6.65 million tpy by 2025. Out of this, 0.05 million tpy will be from planned projects and 6.6 million tpy from announced projects.
Teja Pappoppula, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, said: “In India, the Reliance Industries Jamnagar SBR Plant is the major upcoming new-build project in India, which is likely to add capacity of 6.5 million tpy by 2025 and is operated by Reliance Industries Ltd.”
GlobalData identifies China as the second highest country in terms of capacity additions, with a capacity of 0.3 million tpy by 2025. Fujian Gulei Petrochemical Company Zhangzhou SBR Plant, Sinopec Hainan Refining & Chemical Yangpu SBR Plant and Zhejiang Petrochemical Daishan SBR Plant are the three plants that account for the entire capacity additions in the country with 0.1 million tpy each, respectively.
Iran is the third highest country in terms of capacity additions where the total capacity additions will be from a planned project Sadaf Petrochemical Assaluyeh SBR Plant with a capacity of 0.14 million tpy in 2021.
Reliance Industries Ltd, Sadaf Petrochemical Assaluyeh Co and China Petrochemical Corp will be the top three companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the outlook period.
