The American Petroleum Institute’s Global Industry Services department (API Global) has established a new Source Inspector Electrical Equipment (SIEE) certification, the third offering within a suite of Source Inspector Certification Programmes designed by inspection and quality subject matter experts specifically for the oil and gas industry.
“API has a long history as a certification body and has provided this important service to the industry since 1924,” said Lisa Salley, Vice President of API Global. “We are excited to work side by side with experts to offer new avenues for the certification of inspection professionals, especially at this critical time when many are retooling or broadening their skill set.”
Electrical equipment, including junction boxes, transformers, control panels and motors are integral to the operations of many facilities and production sites. This new certification ensures that quality surveillance professionals have established a strong foundation of knowledge and are aware of the relevant API standards associated with supplier and vendor equipment, fabrication methods, and establishing a Quality Management System.
“The success of complex operations often depends upon the inspectors who examine manufactured products and confirm that the vendors’ Quality Management Systems are being utilised effectively,” said Lakshmy Mahon, API’s Director of Intellectual Property and Portfolio Management. “Our certification programmes, including Source Inspector Electrical Equipment, are just one of the many ways we help individuals and companies achieve their quality management and safety goals.”
Certification candidates are required to provide proof of appropriate education and demonstrate that they meet API’s experience qualifications. They must also sit for and pass a four hour, 100 question exam, administered worldwide at Prometric computer testing centres. The first SIEE exams will be offered 9 - 23 December 2016, with a registration deadline of 31 October 2016, and the next set of exams will take place 17 - 31 March 2017, with a registration deadline of 7 January 2017. API will offer three SIEE exam periods per year.
The full suite of API Source Inspector Certification Programmes includes:
- Source Inspector Fixed Equipment (SIFE).
 - Source Inspector Rotating Equipment (SIRE).
 - Source Inspector Electrical Equipment (SIEE).
