Azerbaijan

The plans in Azerbaijan to construct a new refinery and petrochemicals complex has attracted interest from British companies. Charles Hendry, UK Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change was accompanied by representatives of Shaw Group on his recent trip to Baku.

Bosnia

On 27th September Bosnia’s only refining facility opened a new production line which will increase the facility’s output to 1.5 million tpy. This 20% increase will enable the refinery to export crude products to Western Europe. This upgrade is part of a US$ 1 billion 5 year investment plan at the facility to increase output to 3 million tpy. The Brod refinery is owned by Russian company Neftegazinkor.

France

LyondellBasell are looking to cease operations at the Berre refinery as it has received no offers since it was put up for sale. The refinery’s operators Compagnie Petrochemique de Berre SAS is now in consultations with works councils to begin the shutdown process.

Italy

Eni has announced plans to temporarily shutdown its Porto Marghera refinery near Venice. The facility will be taken offline temporarily as it is currently unprofitable due to falling demand. An agreement was made between Eni and labour unions stipulating that the facility can be taken offline for an unspecified period of time but only if the facility is kept online until the end of 2014.

Romania

Planned maintenance will be carried out at Petromidia’s Rompetrol Rafinare from 22nd October – 3rd November. As well as maintenance work, the facility will have new processing units integrated to increase capacity to 5 million tpy in 2012.
