EIA biodiesel production report
According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), US production of biodiesel was 70 million gal. in January 2014. Biodiesel production during January 2014 was approximately 65 million gal. lower than production in December 2013.
Production came from 89 biodiesel plants with total capacity of 1.9 billion gal./y. However, biodiesel production from the Midwest region (PADD 2) accounted for 69% of this total.
Producer sales of biodiesel during January 2014 included 49 million gal. sold as B100 (100% biodiesel). An additional 17 million gal. of B100 sold in biodisel blends with diesel fuel derived from petroleum.
There was a total of 530 million lbs of feedstocks used to produce biodiesel in January 2014. Soybean oil remained the largest biodiesel feedstock during January 2014, with 241 million lbs consumed.
