The October 2016 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report of recent and historical energy statistics, was released on 27 October 2016.
Preliminary estimates of industrial sector energy consumption indicate that for July 2016:
- Total industrial sector consumption accounted for 31% of total primary energy consumption. Total energy consumption in the sector equaled 2.6 quadrillion Btu, a 4% decrease from July 2015.
- Electricity retail sales and electrical system energy losses accounted for 34% of industrial sector total energy consumption.
- Natural gas accounted for 30% of industrial sector total energy consumption, petroleum for 25%, renewable energy for 7%, and coal for 4%.
The MER provides monthly and annual data on total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions.
