Energy companies dominate Chronicle 100
The Houston Chronicle has released its annual list of top performing Houston companies. While this list was extremely diverse this year, oil and gas companies dominated the rankings.
At the top of the list was Quanta Services, a pipeline and transmissions system builder that last year ranked 76th. Quanta led with strong results in several categories, including revenue growth of 41%, to US$ 5.9 billion. Its earnings per share jumped 142%, to US$1.36.
Another indicator of the companies growth has been its rapid expansion; Quanta now has more than 20 000 employees, up from 12 000. This growth has taken space over a short time period of approximately 2 years.
