Enhancing the safety of crude by rail
The API has announced that it will review regulations proposed by the US DoT for the shipment of crude oil, ethanol and other flammable liquids by rail and plans to submit detailed comments during the public comment period.
Jack Gerard, API President and CEO said, ‘every decision in the oil and natural gas industry begins with our core value of safety, which we approach with a foundation grounding in science and date. Knowing that more can always be done, our focus is and always has been on enhancing safety by addressing accident prevention, mitigation and response in a comprehensive manner.
‘The government can and should take steps to ensure greater safety without stalling the energy renaissance that is creating good jobs, growing our economy and improving America’s energy security. As the regulatory process moves forward, we will continue to work collaboratively with the rail industry, regulators and local first responders toward our goal of zero incidents.’
