US gasoline and diesel price: Week ending 18 August 2014
Gasoline
According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the US average retail price of regular gasoline fell to US$ 3.47/gal. as of 18 August, 2014; 3 cents lower than the previous week, and eight cents lower than the same time last year.
Prices decreased in all regions of the nation except for the Rocky Mountains, where the average price increased by less than a cent to US$ 3.66/gal. The largest price decline occurred in the Midwest, where prices were down six cents to US$ 3.40/gal. The East Coast and West Coast prices each fell three cents, to US$ 3.43/gal. and US$ 3.85/gal., respectively. The Gulf Coast average price decreased a penny to US$ 3.26/gal.
Diesel
The average US diesel fuel price decreased one cent this week to US$ 3.84/gal., seven cents lower than this time last year. Diesel fuel prices fell in all areas of the country, with the East Coast, Midwest, Gulf Coast, and Rocky Mountains prices all down by one cent, to US$ 3.88/gal., US$ 3.78/gal., US$ 3.74/gal. and US$ 3.87/gal., respectively. The West Coast price fell less than a cent to remain at US$ 4.02/gal. for the fourth consecutive week.
Propane
US propane stocks increased by 2.5 million bbls last week to 72.8 million bbls as of 15 August, 2014, 10.9 million bbls (17.7%) higher than a year ago. Gulf Coast inventories increased by 1.2 million bbls and Midwest inventories increased by 1.1 million bbls. According to the EIA, East Coast inventories increased by 0.2 million bbls while Rocky Mountains/West Coast inventories remained unchanged.
Propylene non-fuel use inventories represented 5.5% of total propane inventories.
