Pirates release hijacked oil tanker
Turkey’s ambassador to Gabon, Ahmet Riza Demirer, has announced that the oil tanker hijacked last week off the country’s coast has been released.
Demirer has indicated that the Malta flagged tanker, operated by Turkish company, Geden Lines, was released in Nigerian waters early Monday morning after the pirates stole an unreported volume of crude oil and other oil products.
The 24 Indian crew members are all unharmed.
Security firm AKE has described last week’s attacked as constituting a ‘significant expansion’ of the area affected by piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, as it occurred 200 miles further south than a previous attack in April.
