CNG station for Hornbeck, Louisiana

It has been reported that the Town of Hornbeck in Louisiana, USA is partnering with the nearby City of Leesville to construct a new CNG station. Hornbeck already operates its own municipal natural gas system and works extensively in Vernon Parish. This partnership will expand CNG access to private businesses, as well as incentivise the conversion of municipal fleets to CNG in Leesville.

Clarence Beebe, Mayor of Hornbeck said, "I believe natural gas is positioned to be the number one alternative fuel to help the US achieve energy independence for a few reasons. First, natural gas is abundant. America is the number one producer of natural gas in the world. In 2011, Louisiana ranked 2nd in natural gas production behind Texas, producing more than 3 million ft³ of natural gas. Second, natural gas is clan. The emissions from natural gas used as a transportation fuel is 80% less than gasoline or diesel. Third, natural gas is affordable. Depending on the application, natural gas offers a 30 – 50% saving over other fuels. Fourth, natural gas is safe. Natural gas is lighter than air. If and when you have a leak, it will dissipate quickly."
