ExxonMobil presents engineering and maths awards

This Autumn, Exxonmobil, in conjunction with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, is recognising Hispanic high school students around the country for achievements in engineering and mathematics through the Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards. ExxonMobil has contributed more than US$ 1.7 million to the Hispanic Heritage Foundation in the 10 years the company has sponsored the awards.

ExxonMobil’s grants support scholarships for promising Hispanic engineering students, regional recognition events for high achievers across the US and mentorship programs.

Selection process

Selection committees in 10 regions received more than 5000 applications for the 180 awards available. Committees elect three graduating seniors in each of the six categories to receive the honour based on academic achievement, community service and an essay about the importance of their heritage. Regional winners hail from 10 areas including Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, northern California, Phoenix, San Antonio and Washington DC. Selection categories include business, education, engineering and maths, journalism, leadership and sports.

Additionally, one youth award winner will be chosen from among regional winners in each category. National winners will receive an additional educational grant, laptop computer and a trip to the National Youth Award in Orlando, Fl.
