Rivertop Renewables' Waterline™ CI for cooling water systems

Rivertop Renewables, a Montana-based novel chemicals company, has announced the release of its first technical bulletin for Waterline™ Cl, the company's sustainable, high performing corrosion inhibitor for use in industrial cooling water systems. The technical bulletin, the first in a series for this product line, offers performance comparisons with phosphate and shows Waterline CI as a viable alternative to the standard chemistries currently used in this multi-billion dollar market.

"The first commercial production runs and deliveries of Rivertop's innovative corrosion inhibitors are now behind us, and these technical bulletins offer customers guidelines for use and integration into cooling water treatment programmes," said Mike Knauf, CEO of Rivertop.

The testing described in the bulletin demonstrates how Waterline Cl performs as compared to orthophosphate, a standard inhibitor used to prevent corrosion in cooling water systems common to heavy industry. Phosphorous-based corrosion inhibitors often present a number of performance and operational challenges, and are subject to increased scrutiny by regulators for their environmental impact.

Produced from renewable plant sugars and completely phosphorous free, Waterline Cl forms a persistent, passivating film on steel surfaces and does not pose a fouling concern with calcium. It achieves a lower and more stable corrosion rate over time as compared to phosphonate treatments used in HVAC systems.

By eliminating the need to formulate with stabilising copolymers, Waterline CI enables water treaters to maintain a combined low total cost of formulation and in-use performance economics.
