The Americas: downstream update
California
Chevron is expected to carry out a 45 day maintenance period at its Richmond refinery. The work will likely begin in October and involve the shutdown of a crude unit, which needs to have two separators replaced.
Colombia
The Refinare refinery is to be put up for auction in August. This 12 000 bpd facility will have a starting price of US$ 99 million and is currently operated by Ecopetrol. The facility has not been in operation since 2003 when it was taken offline due to speculated involvement in the illegal selling of gasoline.
Delaware
The 182 200 bpd Delaware City refinery was taken offline by previous owner Valero Energy Corp in 2009. PBF purchased the refinery last year and it is now substantially up and running.
Indiana
BP has announced that the expansion work being carried out at its Lake Michigan refinery is 65% complete. The expansion is set to cost US$ 3.8 billion and will enable to facility to process heavy Canadian crude. The expanded facility is expected to come online in 2013.
Philadelphia
On Friday 15th July, Sunoco Inc. restated boiler 39 at its Philadelphia refinery after a filing with pollution regulators. The boiler was part of the Girard Point section.
Venezuela
ENI is going to invest US$ 7 billion in Venezuelan projects to increase its presence there to 240 00 bpd by 2018. ENI will form a joint venture with PDVSA as part of the investment to develop reserves in the Orinoco Belt and construct a refinery in Anzoategui.
