European refining update
Germany
Following its acquisition of the Wilhelmshaven refinery from ConocoPhillips, Hestya Energy BV has announced that it is not intending to restart units at the complex because margins from processing crude into fuels are currently so unfavourable. Instead, the Dutch company is hoping to make the north German site profitable as a terminal.
Russia
OAO Rosneft has halted a distillation unit at its 160 000 bpd Komsomolsk oil refinery in Russia’s Far East for maintenance. The unit known as E-AVT-3 halted on Aug 10 and is scheduled to start operating on Sept 11.
UK
GE Oil & Gas has announced that it is planning to build an oil refinery in on Teesside in a joint venture with a small UK firm. The US major is working on a feasibility study for the project with UK firm Penergis.
