Hydrocarbon Engineering,

GE Oil & Gas has announced that it is to establish its new global headquarters in London. Meanwhile, Florence will remain the global headquarters for GE Oil & Gas Turbomachinery Products & Services; a more than US$ 6 billion business and a key manufacturing site for the production of centrifugal compressors and gas turbines.

Dan Heintzelman, President and CEO of GE Oil & Gas, has outlined that London was selected as the location for the new headquarters due to its position as a leading international business and travel hub; from this location, a team of leaders from GE global support functions will be able to more efficiently reach and srve colleagues and businesses globally.

The new headquarters’ role will be to support the business and its 43 000 employees, working in more than 100 countries. GE Oil & Gas expects to relocate a limited number of employees, mainly associated with the support functions, to London.

Meanwhile, Florence will continue to strengthen its reputation as a centre of excellence in centrifugal compressor and gas turbine manufacturing, claims Heintzelman. He has emphasised that GE invested more than US$ 100 million in 2012 for the modernisation of plants in Italy; the company is committed to maintaining Florence as one of its premier manufacturing sites.

The London headquarters will be operational starting in January 2014.
