Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MHPSA) has been selected by NTE Energy (NTE) of Saint Augustine, Florida, to supply an M501GAC gas turbine for another of their power projects, this time for Kings Mountain Energy Centre, in Cleveland County, North Carolina. The plant is scheduled to be commercially online in 2018.

Kings Mountain Energy Centre, in combined cycle mode will produce 475 megawatts (MW) of electricity, enough to serve 400 000 homes. The plant will be constructed, owned and operated by NTE's affiliate, NTE Carolinas LLC. As one of the most efficient and clean sources of energy in North Carolina, the facility will bring added benefits to the community including jobs, an expanded tax base, annual savings of several million dollars.

“It was just eight months ago when NTE first contracted MHPSA to supply an M501GAC for their 475 MW Middletown Energy Centre,” said David Brozek, Senior Vice President at MHPSA. “This new order validates two key points, NTE recognises MHPSA as a trusted, long term partner, and it reaffirms that we have the most reliable gas turbine technology available to meet their needs,” added Brozek. Independent third party validation has confirmed the M501GAC, rated at 276 MW has achieved a five year rolling average reliability of over 99%.

"NTE Energy is excited to partner with MHPSA as the combustion turbine supplier for the Kings Mountain Energy Center,” said Seth Shortlidge, NTE CEO. “Their advanced combustion turbines provide market leading efficiency and reliability, while maintaining operational flexibility - exactly what NTE looks for in its development projects.”

The Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems G-Series Gas Turbine was the industry’s first advanced technology gas turbines. The Kings Mountain Energy Centre turbine will be manufactured at MHPSA’s Savannah Machinery Works (SMW), an ultra modern manufacturing facility located in Georgia.
