Ecopetrol successfully starts up new ULSD units
Ecopetrol has successfully started up two new units for the production of ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) and ultra low sulfur gasoline, as part of its hydrotreating project (HDT) at its Barrancabermeja refinery, located in the Santander department of Colombia.
Axens’ scope of work included license, optimisation studies, basic process engineering and consulting services during the EPC phase for a complex of seven process units and their interconnections. The HDT complex incorporates: a diesel hydrotreater, a gasoline hydrotreater, a sulfur recovery unit, a tail gas treatment unit, a new amine regeneration unit, a new sour water stripping unit and a new hydrogen production unit.
The HDT complex brings the Colombian fuels production compliant to the latest environmental regulations.
