China

A delegation from China will be visiting Kuwait this week to discuss final plans for the construction of a new refinery. The facility will be located in Zhanjiang, Southern China and will become a mega project facility. Construction is projected to begin in 2012 and have a processing capacity of 300 00 bpd.

India

An additional sulfur recovery unit is to be commissioned for the Mathura refinery. This will be the fourth unit of its kind attached to the refining facility. The company, Mathura Refinery JP Guharay, has invested Rs 122 crores in technology from Jacobs Netherlands Technology and 66 crores in sulfur palletisation units from Sandvik Germany Technology.

Iraq

Iraq’s prime minister has announced that the country is looking to construct a new refinery in the city of Kerbala. The country is currently in talks with European investors and hopes to begin construction by the end of this year. The plant is projected to have a processing capacity of 140 000 bpd and will be the first of four new refineries Iraq is looking to build over the coming years.

USA

Elevance Renewable Sciences are going to construct a biorefinery in Mississippi. The company will hire 200 people and invest US$ 225 million in the project and state of Mississippi as a whole. Once the refinery is established, plans are to increase and expand capacity to create a world class facility.

On 7th June a fluid catalytic cracking unit was taken offline for 48 hours for maintenance at the BP owned Texas City Refinery. Work is reported to have been carried out on the wet gas scrubber and the regenerator.
