Hydrocarbon Engineering,

Axens has completed the expansion of its Axens Catalyst Arabia Limited site, aimed at providing local and regional partners with the latest Tail Gas Treatment Catalysts, in addition to the site’s legacy catalyst hydro-processing manufacturing capacity.

Axens is the first and only company to produce tail gas treatment catalysis in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East to serve the oil and gas sector.

Through this milestone, Axens has further accelerated the consolidation of its capacity to serve its regional customers to meet regulatory requirements and maximise sulfur recovery by up to 99.9% and therefore minimising SOx emission. Now operational, Axens’ ACAL Tail Gas Treatment Catalyst production site is supplying the region refining and gas industries with the latest generation of Axens’ Tail Gas Catalysis, that capable of operating at lower temperature than conventional catalysts, and resulting in minimum energy consumption and minimum CAPEX.

In combination with its Claus catalysts, Axens excels in efficiency and reliability, offering the most advanced solutions for sulfur recovery and emissions reduction ensuring high recovery rates, operational flexibility, and compliance with the most stringent environmental regulations.

Abdulkareem ALYAMI, ACAL’s Managing Director, said: “As the first company to now be able to produce tail gas treatment catalyst from the Middle East, this site expansion is a testament to Axens’ commitment to local content and promoting the local industry capacity. With this addition to Axens’ local portfolio, the ACAL expansion project is for Axens Group another initiative to support our customers handling their sustainability journey in the field of energy efficiency, in line with our 2023 CSR Report United Nations Sustainable Goals roadmap objectives. Axens Group will continue to explore with our customers opportunities to enhance our offer as well as promote the local economy and support Saudi’s Vision with our Made in Saudi portfolio.”
