Mid September downstream news: The Americas
Canada
The Saint John refinery, New Brunswick is now undergoing a 12 week maintenance project. The Irving Oil Ltd. owned facility will have maintenance and upgrading work carried out on several units scattered over the entire facility. The work includes the construction of a US$ 25 million vapour recovery unit.
Nebraska
BioSyn Resources have voiced plans to construct a US$ 100 million biofuel refinery. The company hope to construct the facility in Bellevue but is yet to obtain approval from the Environmental Protection Agency. If built, the facility will convert vegetable oil and animal fates into green fuels and have a capacity of 6500 bpd.
Peru
Carlos Herrera, Peru’s Minister of Energy and Mines has announced that upgrade work at the Talara facility will continue under the country’s new administration. Petroperu, a state owned company, are in the process of increasing the facility’s capacity to 90 000 bpd from 62 000 bpd.
Texas
Over the weekend, a crude unit at the Total owned Port Arthur refinery was taken offline for repairs. This was an unplanned shutdown of the unit and restart is scheduled for the end of this week.
US East Coast
The have been reports that ConocoPhillips may put two refineries on the US East Coast up for sale. The two refineries in question are the Linden, New Jersey and Trainer, Pennsylvania facilities. ConocoPhillips have not confirmed these reports.
