Shell granted licence for Mayo gas refinery

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted Shell an industrial emissions licence for its Bellanaboy gas refinery, North Co Mayo. The licence permits the ‘operation of a gas refinery’ and the ‘combustion of fuels’.
In order to start to bring gas ashore from the Corrib field, Shell now needs to acquire ministerial approval, and the company expects the first gas flow by the end of 2015. The costs of the project are expected to be over €3.6 billion in 2015. Shell E&P Ireland commented that it is “looking forward to delivering gas” and that they are “technically ready” to start work.
