India

Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) conglomerate Punj Lloyd Ltd has been awarded an Rs 358 crore contract by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (CPCL) to build the sulfur block of resid upgradation project at its Manali refinery near Chennai.

Contract scope includes residual basic and detail engineering, procurement, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning and project management for the sulfur block comprising two 100 tpd sulfur recovery units, including tail gas treatment unit, 60 m³/hr sour water stripper and 250 tpd capacity amine regeneration unit on a single point reliability basis.

The project is expected to be commissioned in December 2015.

Malaysia

State oil firm Petronas will start up its US$ 19 billion petrochemicals complex in Malaysia in 2018, signaling a further delay in the country’s largest ever infrastructure project.

A delay to the project in southern Johor state could deal a potential blow to the economy of the Southeast Asian nation as well as local oil and gas firms hoping for work on the complex.

The project has been complicated by a need to secure water supplies as well as cater for international partners.

Middle East

Saudi Arabia

Sahara Petrochemicals Company has signed a contract with DAELIM for a butanol plant with       330 000 tpy capcity of m-butanol and 11 000 tpy of iso-butanol, in Jubail Industrial city.

The contract is valued at approximately US$ 293 million. Experimental operation start up is expected to last from three to six months.

Last month, DAELIM also signed a contract worth US$ 175 million, to deliver a fluid catalytic cracker and acid water treatment facility for Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC). The contract was part of KNPC’s Clean Fuels Project that will expand KNPC’s large scale Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery.

South America

Venezuela

Lightning struck a Petroleos de Venezuela refinery in the northern city of Puerto La Cruz, causing an explosion and subsequent fire on Sunday.

Approximately 1000 workers are bases at the facility however Company Vice President, Asdrubal Chavez, has said that no injuries have been reported.
