Thomson Reuters recognises ABB as a Top 100 Global Innovator
ABB has been recognized by Thomson Reuters as one of the world’s top 100 innovators.
The award recognizes companies around the world for their outstanding commitment to global innovation, the protection of ideas and the commercialization of inventions.
Over the past year, ABB has announced several milestones in innovation including a combined low voltage circuit breaker and energy manager, a new direct current fast charger for electric cars and a super fast flash charging technology for electric buses, and the development of a hybrid high voltage direct current (HDVC) breaker.
In 2012, ABB invested more than US$ 1.2 billion in research and development. The company employs approximately 8000 technologists in more than 20 countries.
ABB CEO, Ulrich Spiesshofer, commented that ‘this award is a strong endorsement of [the company’s] focus to develop innovative solutions for automation, energy efficiency and the power grid’.
This award follows ABB having been names as one of Europe’s top fifty patent filing companies by the European Patent Office earlier this year, and after its recognition by MIT Technology Review as being one of the leading global innovators.
