Possible blendwall remedy in 2014

American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President, Charles T. Drevna, has issued a statement in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement of 2013 Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs).

In this statement, Drevna commented that the AFPM are ‘disappointed that EPA failed to provide refiners and consumers immediate and necessary relief against the E10 blendwall and skyrocketing costs of our nation’s biofuel mandate’.

‘AFPM is encourages that the Agency indicated the need to address the blendwall when setting next year’s requirements. In doing so, EPA now has an opportunity to act decisively to bring long term stability to the market’.

‘We hope that EPA will soon use its waiver to significantly reduce the amount of ethanol and other biofuel required under the RFS for 2013’.

‘In acknowledging the blendwall, EPA joins a growing list of organizations that understand the fundamental flaws associated with our nation’s ill crafted biofuel mandate. Congress now needs to start working on repealing this poorly devised mandate as soon as possible to stop what will become a growing drain on the US economy’.
