6th June: Oil and gas industry announcements

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

Air quality permit

G2X Energy, Inc has announced that the state of Louisiana and the Federal EPA have granted its wholly owned subsidiary, Big Lake Fuels LLC, the required air permits to construct and operate a natural gas to gasoline facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The permits, issued by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) on May 23rd, are the first permits to allow for the construction and operation of a commercial scale plant to convert natural gas into liquid transportation fuels. The project will convert domestic natural gas into approximately 12 5000 bpd of zero sulfur, RBOB gasoline and/or commercial grade methanol.

G2X will use commercially proven processes and the best available emission control technologies in both its methanol production and its methanol to gasoline conversion, which together comprise the industrial facility that will produce both marketable methanol and unleaded automotive gasoline.

Liquefaction plant order

Chart Industries, Inc. has announced that LNG Holdings (Florida) LLC has awarded Chart’s wholly owned subsidiary, Chart Energy & Chemicals, Inc., a contract to provide its standard C100N LNG liquefaction plant. The plant will produce nominally 100 000 gal./d of LNG using Chard E&C’s liquefaction technology. Key equipment packages manufactured by Chart for this project include: brazed aluminium heat exchangers, air cooled heat exchangers, cold box, storage tanks, and rail and truck load out facilities. This equipment is designed in house, and manufactured and fabricated in Chart’s facilities, a vertically integrated approach that allows Chart to deliver fast track schedules to facilitate earlier commencement of LNG production.

New position

CH2M HILL has announced that Charles Whisman has joined the firm as Vice President and US Oil and Gas Operations Manager for the Environment and Nuclear Market. Whisman has more than 20 years of experience in leading environmental, engineering and energy for oil and gas, energy, industrial and government clients. Terminal acquisition

Phillips 66 has agreed to purchase a 7.1 million bbl storage capacity terminal located near Beaumont, Texas. The terminal will be the largest in the Phillips 66 portfolio. The terminal is strategically located on the US Gulf Coast and provides deep water access and multiple interconnections with major crude oil and refined production pipelines serving 3.6 million bpd of refining capacity. The terminal also features:

  • 4.7 million bbls of crude oil storage capacity and 2.4 million bbls of refined product storage capacity.
  • Two marine docks capable of handling Aframax tankers and one barge dock.
  • Rail and truck loading and unloading facilities.

The Beaumont Terminal is currently owned by UNOCAL, a member of the Chevron Group. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of this year, following the receipt of regulatory approvals.
