Colombia
EcoPetrol is going to restart its Cartagena refinery in the first half of 2015. The 80 000 bpd plant was taken offline to increase processing capacity to 165 000 bpd. The plant, once reopened will be able to process heaver domestic crudes than previously.
India
On 4th April, a new 3 million tpy delayed coker unit came online at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals. The new unit is part of the phase II upgradation and expansion of the Indian project.
Malaysia
Petronas has announced plans to continue with the construction of a new refinery and petrochemicals complex. The plant, worth approximately US$ 27 billion, is being built in the Southern Johor state which borders Singapore. The Pengerang Integrated Complex is expected to startup in early 2019.
South Sudan
Due to conflict in the country, two new oil refineries that were planned have now been put on hold. The two plants would have helped make Africa’s newest nation less reliant on oil product imports. One of the planned refineries is to have a processing capacity of 10 000 bpd.
USA
The US Justice Department is to receive the biggest environmental cash settlement in history from Anadarko Petroleum. The settlement is worth US$ 5.15 billion and is for the clean up of dozens of sites across the country and to compensate more than 7000 people who are living with the effects of contamination. The claims which resulted in this settlement stem from one of the firm’s subsidiaries Kerr-McGee.
