Early June downstream update: The Americas

Bolivia

Bolivia’s state owned oil and gas company YPFB has announced plans to expand the country’s two largest refineries. Capacity at the plants will be increased by over 50% and Bolivia plans to spend US$ 22.5 million on the projects. The two facilities account for 90% of Bolivia’s processing capacity.

Brazil

Petrobras has announced that it has enough resources and funding to complete the construction of the port of Suape refinery. The facility is a joint venture between Petrobras and PDVSA. The facility is 35% complete and is expected to be online by the end of 2013 with a processing capacity of 230 000 bpd.

New Jersey

A fire occurred at the Bayway refinery, Linden on 1^st June. A crude unit at the ConocoPhillips owned facility and a fluid catalytic cracker has been shut. The fire that broke out in the furnace crude unit hurt one refinery worker.

Texas

The BP owned Texas City refinery exceeded its 20% opacity limit on 1^st June. The limit on a unit related to the fluid catalytic cracker was exceeded and filed with state regulators as emissions associated with the event were released for 24 hours.
