Letter of support for LNG permitting

Hydrocarbon Engineering,

Below are highlights from a letter to John Boehner, Speaker, US House of Representatives and Nancy Pelosi, Minority Leader, US House of Representatives, from the American Petroleum Institute, America’s Natural Gas Alliance and US Chamber of Commerce in support of LNG permitting.

“We write to express our strong support for H.R. 351, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act…The US is the world’s largest natural gas producer and, because of our abundant supply of natural gas, we can affordably and reliably supply both our future domestic fuel needs and a robust export market.

“Technological breakthroughs in the oil and gas industry have unleashed an energy renaissance and demonstrated that the US is energy abundant rather than energy scarce. Not only do we have enough natural gas to supply low cost energy here at home but we also have abundant supplies to participate in the global market for LNG and make our nation more energy secure. Representatives Bill Johnson and Gene Green’s bill provides the DOE a much needed deadline to make a decision on pending applications that have completed the extensive environmental review process. H.R.351 will institute greater certainty into the permitting process thereby accelerating investment in the US economy, creating thousands of US jobs and strengthening our strategic alliances abroad.

“Since the beginning of 2005, natural gas production in the US has increased 30%. The US EIA projects a 56% increase in total natural gas production from 2012 – 2040. Given the acknowledged abundance of domestic natural gas, expanding our export opportunities will create jobs, strengthen our economy, and enhance our national security and energy security. We appreciate the hard work of Representatives Bill Johnson and Gene Green to craft this bipartisan bill and encourage members of the House of Representatives to support passage of H.R. 351 and lock in the economic and geographical opportunities created by our energy revolution.”
