Asia

Gazprom Neft of Russia has announced plans to expand into the South East Asian refining market next year. The company is planning on buying a 49% stake in the Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical plant in Vietnam.

Brazil

On Friday, a fire shutdown part of a Petrobras refinery in the South of Brazil. A distillation unit at the Presidente Getulio Vargas refinery broke out and there were thankfully no injuries or environmental damage. It has also been reported that fuel supplies will not be impacted.

India

Indian Oil Corp has announced plans to expand its Panipat refinery. The plan currently has a processing capacity of 12 million tpy and is looking to increase that to 21 million tpy. The work is expected to cost at least US$ 1 billion.

Indian Chief Secretary E K Bharat Bhushan visited the BPCL Kochi Refinery last week. Whilst at the plant he reviewed the implementation of the capacity expansion project and other operational activities. The expansion project is increasing processing capacity at the plant to 15.5 million tpy.

Nigeria

Engineers India Limited will provide project management consultancy and engineering, procurement and construction management services for a Dangote Group refinery. The plant will have a processing capacity of 20 million tpy and include a 600 000 tpy polypropylene plant. The contract is expected to be worth US$ 139 million.

Oman

Orpic has awarded several long lead item contracts for the Sohar refinery improvement project. ATB Riva Calzoni, GE Oil and Gas, Howden Thomassen and Flowserve have all received contracts and the units related to these are expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

Turkmenistan

Foreign companies are going to be implementing major oil refinery projects in Turkmenistan. Total investments are expected to amount to US$ 800 million. The companies involved include Turkish Lotus Company, Alliance Engineering and Construction of The Netherlands and Petro Gas LLP Company of the UK.
