Illinois
WRB Refining has filed a law suit against two companies that allegedly caused an accident that shut down the plant. Phillips 66 owns the Roxana refinery. The incident occurred in September 2008 and the filing was made with Madison Country Circuit Court.
Minnesota
Flint Hills has partnered with Great River Greening to implement a green and ecofriendly way to clear the scrubland around the pine bend refinery of buckthorn. 80 goats have descended upon the land to munch through the unwanted vegetation.
Ohio
A pile of petroleum coke, a refining byproduct is going to be shipped to Ohio from Detroit. The 40 foot high pile is owned by Koch Carbon. Detroit’s mayor ordered the coke to be removed from the city due to environmental and health fears.
Texas
Total Safety has presented Western Refining’s El Paso refinery with an innovation award. The 128 000 bpd facility has been given the award for its approach to improving safety in the workplace.
ExxonMobil has awarded Zachry a capital work contract at the Baton Rouge Chemical Plant and Refinery. ExxonMobil are already a Zachry client and this multi year contract cements the relationship between the countries.
Utah
Big West Oil LLC is to pay US$ 175 000 in fines due to alleged violations of the Clean Air Act. The company are also going to have to invest US$ 1.8 million on emissions controls at the North Salt Lake refinery as part of the same violations. The Environmental Protection Agency will receive all penalty cash.
